· FIX JEROME'S HOUSE · A COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN
He served for 21 years. Now let's help him come home.
Meet SFC Jerome Redd, Retired — disabled U.S. Army veteran, retired instructor, and published poet. After decades of service, he now needs community support to make his Baltimore home safe and livable again.
“I am appealing to the hearts and generosity of my fellowman kind to help me get back on my feet and back into my house.”
— SFC Jerome Redd, Retired
JEROME'S STORY
Jerome deserves a safe place to call home.
Jerome Redd spent 21 years serving in the U.S. Army. He is also a retired instructor, a published poet, a husband of more than 47 years, and a devoted caregiver.
When Jerome and his wife learned of her dementia diagnosis in 2013, their lives changed. Jerome continued working while helping care for her. As her needs increased, he and his sister-in-law became full-time caregivers. Eventually, Jerome had to arrange assisted living for his wife. He says her care has cost him approximately $3,000 per month since February 2025.
In July 2025, Jerome planned to move back into the Baltimore house he owned at 817 N. Washington Street. Instead, he found extensive debris and garbage throughout the property, broken furniture, pet waste, damaged walls, blocked access, and disconnected electric and water service. According to Jerome, the former tenants were gone and he had no safe home to return to.
Jerome has been renting a room from a family member while trying to clean and repair his house. His disability, caregiving responsibilities, and limited finances make it impossible for him to tackle the entire job alone.
This campaign is about more than fixing a building. It's about helping a veteran regain stable housing, independence, and peace of mind.
